Self-service checkout

I think very much about employment issues, but sometimes I think that some jobs, were taken by robot self-service machine. it make me very angry to see how many people need work but businesses and their greediness are trying to save money, insurance, pensions, tax, national insurance, and so on, that is a lotta to say. I find it so annoy to see that many customers end up having to call for help one reason or another, either because we cannot find where the money goes or because of problems with the bar code.
Robots don't say good morning or have a lovely day.

Perhaps it is about responding to customer demand? I would always choose self-service over a manned check-out and I doubt I'm the only one. It's often quicker and I don't have to talk to anyone.

We should get paid by the supermarket for scanning our own shopping.

I'm not sure how many jobs the self service tills actually do replace on the basis that there is always at least 1 and often 2 members of staff on call to handle issues. And in general customers scan less quickly than a trained staff member so takes longer.

Also might allow for more staff to be on 'normal' tills/stock replenishment. Certainly in libraries, self issue machines have allowed staff more time to devote to collection development/customer service/shelving returned items etc.

It's not necessarily about doing people out of jobs, but using people in different ways.

I don't actually think that self-service machines are doing people out of jobs. Our local Waitress introduced them and, although I hate them, there are just as many staff as before. They've just been redeployed onto emptying the coffee machine, taking in dry cleaning, wrapping flowers and sorting out the John Lewis deliveries.

Cars don't say hello, but you don't see many litter carriers around today - technology moves on
