I've been in the same job for 20 years and it is time for a change - I think I know what this means with regards to salary, but could anyone with more up-to-date knowledge confirm it for me -

"Status: One year fixed term contract

Working hours: 22 hours per week (3 days per week, actual days negotiable)

Salary: NJC Local Authority pay scale 35 to 39 starting at £29,636 (pro rata for 3 days per week) + benefits

Location: Flexible, regular travel nationally will be required"

Thanks.

The job is for 1 year, you'll be paid £17.8k per annum for 3 days work. Travel is required, you'll need to caltify with them what location flexible means.

IME part-time LA jobs are advertised as either "pro rata" or "actual salary"
so in this case you'd get 3/5ths of the advertised salary

Ziggyzoom · 18/05/2015 09:42

That's what I thought. I was hoping I was wrong because it is a job I feel quite passionate about, but I think with extra time and costs incurred from travelling, the sums don't add up. Sad

Agreed - you will get 3/5 of £29,636 per year as your salary.

Thanks, back to the drawing board!

It would be silly to give up the security of 20 years' employment (employment rights, redundancy entitlement etc) for a one year fixed contract.

Ziggyzoom · 18/05/2015 10:14

If the sums had worked out I was intending to look at the possibility of a secondment. I'm not silly, but I am definitely in need of a change!

You might be able to be appointed higher up the salary scale? 39 is ~£33k so 3/5 would be £19.8k.

NiceBitOfCheese · 18/05/2015 22:25

If you can get a secondment I think your employment rights will be protected, ie you would revert to your current, substantive, post after the year is up. Don't take my word for it, as I'm not an employment lawyer or anything, but it might be worth some exploratory talks.

That's what I think too nice but of course I wouldn't take the plunge without being sure.
