How on earth do I assess my own marketplace value?

I've worked as a self-employed musical instrument tutor for the last 16 years, including working in private schools. Had a few years working in a junior school as a TA/SEN 1-to-1/Office staff/Extended schools co-ordinator, but after having DC3, suffered from ME for the last five years. Last year, I started recovering, so I've returned to work as a FT PA to Directorate at the County Council, which I'm enjoying, but feel I'm not really using my skills as much as I could. I was naturally quite nervous about returning to work ft, but it's worked well so far, and I haven't had to take any time off because of my condition, despite having a bit of a commute.

The problem is, is that I still don't have that degree. I did 2 years of a Music degree back before DC1, then a professional diploma with the Associated Board, and am just finishing the end of the second year of BA in English with the OU, which I think I'm on course to finish with a 2.1. (It would probably be a first at a normal uni, but the OU boundaries are very high).

Am I deluded in thinking I could get a better job? The one I'm in at the moment is for maternity cover, so will only last until December or January, so I'm quite nervous about being left without a job at a shit time of year, and of course, with the election, who knows what's going to happen after May.

Any advice appreciated, really.
