I'm looking for some advice.
My DH works a peripatetic role for a smallish company - he has no control over where his jobs will be as they are booked by the head office and often involve breakdowns and repairs (deliberately being vague here!).
He starts at 9am I.e that's when he has to be at the office. He then has always been paid until he returns home as even though he is meant to finish at 5pm he rarely does. He's often up to 2hrs away as the company cover a wide geographical area.
The company have issued them with a letter saying they will now only be paid for time on site and not the travelling home.
Understandably he and his colleagues are up in arms about this - not only because they will lose out on overtime but because they could be travelling up to 2hrs home when they have no control over where they will be working and so not being paid for 2hrs of travelling for the purpose of work.
Now I know most of us don't get paid to travel to and from work - but the status quo has been no travel time paid to work but always paid travel time home due to distance they may be.
Any advice would be welcome as the financial impact will be substantial for everyone as overtime usually makes up around 25% of their annual salary (not all travel time related, of course).
