Online harassment at work

Forgive me if I have to be a little vague as I don't want to out myself, but I'd be grateful for advice.

For over a year my employer and specifically the department I work for has been harassed online by someone who holds a grudge.

Various named people and our department have been accused of impropriety, illegal acts, being bad at our jobs - the list goes on and on.

The advice we're given is to ignore it. But it's affecting my life badly - I am proud of where I work, the accusations are false and it's causing me major stress and anxiety.

I know some people will say just don't read it, but I have to as I have to report it upwards and therefore it is impossible to ignore.

Any suggestions or experiences? What could/should be done?

There is no protection from it and I feel like my only option is to leave just to get away from this constant barrage of abuse.

Who is advising you to ignore it? Do you know who is sending these threats? Or is it just some anonymous email address?

KingUnitt · 23/04/2015 23:34

it's not anonymous. It's on the web for all to see. Senior management are made aware of what's being said - it's an almost daily thing. The advice is to ignore.

Why hasn't it been reported to police under protection from harassment legislation?

Agree, the ignoring doesn't seem to be working and as its having an effect on you, your managers need to report it to the police!

Do you work for UKIP or the Daily Mail?

Is it an ex-employee or customer?

Surprised that the company hasn't sent a pre-legal letter to them.

Are the comments being made via the company website, or elsewhere? Are the company doing anything to get the comments taken down?
