Is there any point applying for the same job a second time?

I was shortlisted for a job a couple of years ago. I was disappointed that I didn't get it, but with hindsight I think my responses to a particular line of questioning let me down. I've now seen an advert for the same job again but I'm not sure if it's worth applying again. Would they automatically reject previous applicants? It was quite a long process - several tests and two separate interviews, so I don't really want to go through all that again if I don't stand a chance.

Did you ask for feedback last time? Wold be good if you got to interview again to show what you have done (if there was anything you could have done) regarding it.

We have a guy in our team who applied for the job 4 times before he got it.

That's interesting WeAllHaveWings. Unfortunately I was so gutted at not getting the job that I didn't ask for feedback. But I guess your team member shows that it can pay to persevere!

If you think you have gained more relevant skills and experience since last time then go for it. Persistence in pursuing a goal despite setbacks is a good trait to demonstrate.

I think if it was a couple of years ago there is no harm in going for it. If there is a number for further info you could always try phoning first and asking if they know you.

I applied for an internal position a couple of years ago and missed out 'by a whisker' apparently. More positions recently came up and I was short listed again. I did a test and interview and am waiting to hear if I've been successful or not. If it's a no I won't attempt to apply for it again and will consider moving to other departments instead.

I think you have got nothing to lose. Perhaps they will remember you as the "one who should of got the original job" and be pleased you have applied again.

It could work in your favour Smile

Good luck Corduroy! I think I'll give it another shot too.

I was informed today that I hadn't been successful. I do get really nervous in interviews so that didn't help. If I want full feedback I have to make an appointment to discuss it further but basically I didn't score enough points Sad

Aw, sorry to hear that Corduroy. I also find interviews pretty nerve wracking but they become less daunting the more you do.
