Running a flower stall

I would like to start running a flower stall outside my local station. Does anyone have any experience of doing this please? I have made an enquiry with British Rail, to see if I am allowed to do this. I am assuming that I would have to have a license. I would be grateful for any advice please. Thank you.

Hi, I have worked on flower stalls at railway stations, but don't have 1st hand experience of starting one up. I think you need to talk to the station manager and its more or less in their hands, some can't be bothered to discuss it and others need to be bugged to get your stall, I don't think it's ever a priority for them!

Saying that it can be a really great place for a stall, very hard work though, are you already a florist?

Thanks Goodsouls. That's the impression I get. That no one can really be bothered . But, having said that, I have just managed to get through to someone at British Rail, who took all my details and said that she would pass everything on to the appropriate person. I'm going to keep pestering her until I get an answer. I know it's a tough job. I am not trained as a florist, but I have sold flowers on the farmer's market and also I had a stall outside a vintage shop last year. I like flowers displayed in a very natural way. I plant up a lot of flowers in teacups and interesting vintage objects. I'm planning to just do it part time and I am targeting all those guilty commuting men , who've been for a drink after work and are a bit late home! I'm sure they could do with buying their wives or girlfriends some flowers!

That sounds great! Hope your persistence pays off! Our busiest times were Thursday/Friday from about 4 peaking about 6 and busy until about 9 so you are right about catching men on their way home, they just want to pick up something quick and ready wrapped!!
Good luck!

Thank you so much Goodsouls , that's really helpful. Good to know that I am on the right track.

Yep, I'm sure it will be a success, it's a tough job, but I've been doing in for 25 years and wouldn't want to do anything else! Smile
