a few weeks ago after realising that going back to work in my previous career was nigh on impossible and deep down knew i wouldnt when i got the results of my balance tests, i decided to take a change of direction, inspired by a thread on face painting, i realised that as i had been doing that for 2 years on a casual basis, there was nothing to stop me branching out and doing it properly.
i now have public liability insurance, my materials and even have my first booking this sunday...however im currently just "face painting by my first name" and it sounds so boring, i want a proper name but am all out of ideas, everything i think of, is already in use...can anyone help me?

I think face cadet or The Face Cadet, would stand on its own, and is snappy name! good luck with it all!

SpaceCadet · 03/11/2006 14:37

ive made my choice and its....

Masquerade!..i do like face cadet, but theres something about masqerade, ive checked with company house and although there are lots of companies with it in the name, there isnt a Masqerade face painting.

Quick check this morning reveals that:
masqueradefacepainting.co.uk is available
masquerade-face-painting.co.uk is NOT
masqueradefacepainting.com is available
masquerade-face-painting.com is available
face-painter.co.uk is available
masqueradefacepainter.co.uk is available
masquerade-face-painter.co.uk is available
masqueradefacepainter.com is available
masquerade-face-painter.com is available

Your domain name need not be your trading name. It is best to have KEYWORDS in your domain name, so try to think of what people will search on to find your service. Will they search on Face Painting or Face Painter?

I find FreeParking.co.uk handy for searching for domains. 1and1.co.uk are handy for registering, with price for a .co.uk starting at £2 per year.
34sp.com are good for low cost hosting, from £18 per year plus they can register domain as well from £2.50 per year. So having a website need not cost a fortune.

have a look at Moonfruit for free websites, ideal for what you might want just now. You can do a very simple site where you can showcase a variety of face painting designs. It is quite easy to set up and you can have 1 page or loads. Means you can start handing out business cards and they can get more info from your website. People like to see what they can get.

masqueradefacepainting.co.uk would cost 2.49 to register for 2 years with 123-reg . Once registered you do a link on the 123 site to your moonfruit name and people only have to type in masqueradefacepainting.co.uk to get to your site even though using moonfruit will add moon fruit to your webaddress.

How did today's booking go?

SpaceCadet · 05/11/2006 21:41

thanks skribble.
webcrone, it went really well, i had to roll out the faces pretty quickly, but the children seemed happy and so did the client, even got an enquiry about another party

Hi Folks,

I am a mother and professional face painter from central Scotland.

I know that I am very late to add anything to this thread but Masquerade Face Painting is Amanda Goddard's trading name in South Wales. She has an active web site and is a long standing member of F.A.C.E.(the International Face Painting Association). This is why masquerade-face-painting.co.uk is NOT available.

Companies house is not really the best way to check as most face painters are "trading as" and not registered companies. Look at the FACE website or do a google search.

You need to avoid names that are already in use. There have been too many instances of entertainment agents sending cheques out to the wrong people, only because of name duplication or similarity. I should know. Been there, and it took me ages to get sorted out! All because someone adopted a trading name similar to mine! We have to wait long enough for our money without it ending up in someone elses bank account!

Of the names already suggested, most have already been well used. Face Cadets, to the best of my knowledge, has not been used.
