Should I apply for a ful time job I really want and lose my current part time arrangement?

I work in the NHS on a 3.5 day a week contract. I could do full time with the work load and I am quite stressed out. My boss can be nice or nasty. I'm in the good books at the moment but this is likely to change because it always does.

I have put up with it because it is part time. A job that I have done in another NHS hospital using systems I currently use and with managers I already know has come up in another department. It's a grade higher. I've just phoned the manager who will be interviewing who was very encouraging. I failed to get a job in the same department a few weeks ago but was strongly advised to apply for this one if it came up (and it did soon afterwards).

I should go for it right? But i have DCs aged 4 and 7. I'm not sure f we could cope as a family. I'd get a cleaner with the extra income. I asked about flexible hours e.g. leaving for school run twice a week and doing longer on other days and was told it was open for discussion.

But I love my part time hours!

Only you can decide if the benefits outweigh the longer hours OP. Your DC are the same age as mine, so I'm guessing your 4-year-old is starting school in Sept? Its a good time to go FT, if that's always been your plan and if they're prepared to discuss some flexibility why not apply, interview and thrash out the finer details if you get offered the job? Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that. You can always turn it down if it doesn't sound doable or appealing once you've got all the information.

I would go for it. I am NHS too (3 days) and would be prepared to go full time now (my children are older, 11 and almost 7). However, my job has moved away 25 miles away now (centralisation) and the hours are now very anti-family friendly.
If it was, generally, 9-5/no weekends then I would go for it (my job involves a lot of out of hours work). Like you said, you can employ a cleaner. You will have more money to enjoy too!
It sounds like you are in with a good chance anyway!

Thanks. DH has now suggested that he does 4 days a week and he thinks his employers will allow him to. He earns less than me so it makes sense.

It's worth a go, I may not even get an interview.
