Hi I'm a registered Social worker and graduated with a 2:1 also. I'm currently working within childrens safeguarding and it's been the most challenging part of my life experienced so far.
I'm on mat leave at the mo and also have a child in primary school and partner who works away for sometimes months at a time and I know I could not manage working full time in that field with two children. Therefore I'm completing a childminding course as I feel (should it be successful) this type of work will suit my current situation. Also I love working directly with children.
Are you on mat leave or currently working in that field and just want out??Smile

I'm on Mat leave with baby 2, single mum, don't think I can go back to front line cp stuff Sad or maybe part time? I can't do childminding as I'm living at my parent's, but I think it's a fantastic idea RB - you have a great basis in child development knowledge.

Social housing? Good management skills are required but you're not so responsible for people. Good part time opportunities too.

Watching this with interest!

I moved from front line social services to CAMHS. Not sure it's any easier TBH. It's making me pretty unwell with stress Sad

Much as I love the job I am looking for a way out.

I work for a charity. I still work directly with families but I find a lot more reward and less stress in it than working in statutory services.

Many council mgmt jobs like a SW background- team management, commissioning, service development. Lots of options!

Misseuropadiscodancer · 25/03/2015 13:01

i moved from front line social work in adult services about 6 years ago. I used to deliver training in adult safeguarding, but I started a MA in social research last sept and am hoping to start a PhD from next Sept (if I can get the funding). Am hoping to do social care research and hopefully become a SW lecturer in the long run.

Hello all! So sorry for not coming back sooner - I didn't get any replies so I thought nobody had anything to say. I do have a bit of an update tho - I have since got a new job! Moving into HR in a large college/university. I can't lie, it's been tough going through interview in a new field but they seemed to really get the transferable skills. Notice went in yesterday, can't wait to start my new role. Smile
