Shortlist woes

I've applied for a job that I'm perfectly qualified and experienced for - it seems like a perfect fit- but 5 days after applying I haven't heard anything and am worrying. It is a very 'old fashioned' working environment.
I've got two kids under 5 and keep thinking that will go against me in some way. Am I able to ask for their Shortlist criteria if I don't hear from them?
I really want -and need - this job!!

When is the closing date?

I know it seems like an age when you are waiting for a response, but 6 days in a busy organisation is nothing especially if the application period is still open.

Why would they know you have young kids? I personally would avoid highlighting that on my CV. Even if you have been a SAHM you don't need to say what age your kids are?

Personally I would forget asking them about shortlist critetria and focus on applying for more jobs. That way you don't have everything relying on one potential role.

Even if it looks perfect on paper, the people/the role/the org might not be for you anyway. More applications means more choice etc.

Good luck.

You can certainly ask for feedback if you hear that you haven't been successful (either at shortlist or interview stage) but I would hang fire for a bit longer, was there a closing date?

At our place, 5 days after the closing date, and HR might consider letting the relevant managers see the applications.
I would sit tight for a bit. Hard I know. But 5 days really isn't long for people to read CV's, short list, and get back in contact with the relevant people.
