Is there a market for mums and kids exercising outdoors at same time together in a fun environment?plus entertainer provided for younger ones who can't sit still but too young to do exercises. Please be honest ! Would you go? Consistently with all your children aged 7 & under. If it was fun and got you moving?main objective being have everyone tired going home....especially mum !! Please give honest feedback!

Yes I think there is a market for this, particularly if you can add post and antenatal exercise in too.

My worry is that while I might not mind exercising in the rain and cold, but I'd think twice before bringing a child (unless in a buggy) to do the same. Maybe an indoor alternative could help with that?

I would love this!

However, I might not to be able to afford it, esp when there's the park for us to make our own entertainment 40m away. I don't want to discourage you, but it would be worth bearing in mind - make sure it's an activity that's fully inclusive for the whole family, with lots of giggles, and I think families would pay (especially if it's indoors and out of this rain).

Good luck.

I would find this amazing! I have always wanted to get back in shape after having dds but don't want to put them in a gym crèche and they get in the way and trip me up if I try and do an exercise DVD! Also I I try and exercise in nap time I am worn out and they wake up energised. So that's why I don't exercise. I would love something that would wear us all out at the same time, amazing idea Smile

A local bloke near me did mini 'army' exercise for 3-7s Kids came in camo t-shirts and crawled and jumped about and painted their faces and stuck leaves in their hair And got shouted at in a kindly way.. they loved it! Its a good idea and if its park, low overheads!

Have a look at fit mums and friends which is in the hull area- similar but excellent and successful

Lisamum123 · 26/02/2015 15:15

Thanks so much for your feedback. If you can imagine one big creative game where even kids strapped in to buggies have a roll. The exercises are kiddie friendly and basic but the music is high tempo and aimed at getting the mums moving in particular. Each family represents a team and of course there's a winner. Would' be park based initially but hopefully just initially ...overheads too high in hall. Sound anymore appealing.....pls don't hold back if you see problems. Really looking for honest feedback.....

There is about to be some research released that shows that providing childcare facilities ( not saying that this is what you would be doing) whilst mums exercise doesn't necessarily make them more likely to participate in physical activity. Just a thought. Smile attended the women in sport insight conference Monday and Tuesday

I wouldn't like the competition element of it (being unfit and also a bit shy). I would like something like different classes aimed at different age groups eg buggy runs for tiny ones, aerobics where the preschoolers are somehow incorporated, but maybe that's just me!

Lisamum123 · 27/02/2015 18:52

Thanks so much for all that feedback. Every point made and opinion given is appreciated. I think we need to be more creative in general about how we do things......life and society is getting busier and busier and I'm convinced we can need to get smarter too. There's a huge lesson for kids when we "lead by example" and it's always a bonus when they witness us enjoy life .....sometimes they only see the serious side of us and that's no good either. The coining of the phrase "Fun Daddy" is so unfair given we do most the work!! Anyhow please keep the comments coming and thanks to those who have already contributed !

Just a few q's / something to think about

If it was in a park, my 2yo would scream in the buggy, but if I let her out she would just run away- I know I'm not alone, wouldn't everyone spend their time chasing after their dc?!
How much would it cost? I'm a SAHM, as I assume most of your clients would be, and money is tight.
Might also be worth doing a 5 mins 'get to know you' at the start of each session so the other mums at least know the names of the other parents their dc will be bumping into the entire time!

Sounds like a good idea! If it was under £5 for 1/2 hour + at a decent time (under 3s tend to nap anywhere between 11-3) and you started it in the summer so the park wasn't such a mind boggling muddy idea then great!!

Id love this but id love antenatal exercise classes too

AnythingNotEverything · 27/02/2015 19:52

I wouldn't like the competitive stuff either.

Hoppinggreen · 03/03/2015 10:10

If it's in a public space you can't really stop anyone joining in. I know you could ask them not to use your equipment etc but in a public park it's gong to be difficult.
Also, weather is going to be a factor
