Able to do what? If it's acceptable to HMRC, you mean?

Should be fine. It's normal hours rather contracted hours they are interested in. Averaging over the year is also permissible.

The small print is available on the HMRC website if you have the time and want to check.

Don't see why not if you're working an average 24 hour week. Can your partner not get a p/t job as well though, evening/weekend work?

at the moment we are unsure if he will get on his course at uni this year so if i get a job in the meantime he can get a part time job in future to fit around uni

Yep you can, it's what I do and have been doing for 3/4 years. My hours are 22, but are regularly topped up with overtime. You just say the amount of hours including overtime you will AVERAGELY be working per week.

Be aware that they could potentially ask for your payslips at any point down the line (although haven't asked for mine yet) so you need to make sure over a certain period that you will/have worked the overtime you have said.... Iyswim? :)

happytodaysomehow · 25/02/2015 10:13

they have said my payslips will say 24 hours and be paid minimum wage for 24 hours every week then they will keep a record at work to make sure i do the 52 hours overtime

You'll be fine then.
