Changing job while pregnant

Hope someone can help me in what is probably quite an unusual circumstance.

I've worked at the same company for 6 years. A year or so ago part of the company I work for separated off and formed a separate company but still connected to the original company - like a sister company.

For the last year I've worked for the new company a lot even though I'm officially employed by the old one. The new company has contributed to my salary.

I've been offered a better but more stressful job working at the new company.

The thing is I've just found out I'm pregnant and I'm wondering what my rights are. I can't afford not to get any maternity pay so I'm hoping it will be seen as continuous employment. Is there any chance of this as I've already been working for them? I'm also feeling really stressed and guilty about taking a new job knowing I'm pregnant.

I can't talk to HR as the woman who heads it up is v close to my boss.

I'm really close to my "new" boss but don't want to say anything yet. Also it's really early days and the last time I found out I was pregnant it didn't work out.

Thank you for any advice.

Why does the HR woman being close to your boss mean you can't talk to HR?

What does your new contract with the new employer say? Is it a different role to the one you've been doing for the past year? What's happening to your old role?

Thanks for replying flowery.

I'm concerned the HR woman will tell my boss what I tell her.

The role overlaps with my old job - some of the same responsibilities - but is officially a brand new role created for me. My old role won't be replaced directly, I think they will get someone more junior in. I've not had a contract yet, I should be getting one soon though. People who went over to the new company when it was set up got continuous employment as far as I know.
