Employer wants to change the permanent contract to temporary contract

Hi,
I have been employed by a Not for Profit organisation based on signed permanent contract; after a year, during the time of annual evaluation, employer raised my salary as per budget through a new temporary contract which limits my term of employment to one year; but I don't want to change my current permanent contract to a temporary one; is there anything that I could do to prevent this change to happen; would appreciate any advice from this forum; thanks

No. As you've only been there a short time, if you refuse the change they could just terminate your employment easily and then offer you a contract on the new terms.

Your employment isn't at all secure until you've been there two years even if your contract does say permanent.

Thanks very much flowery; but I live and work in Alberta, Canada, is it the same here in Alberta, Canada as you said. Besides there is a set of policies in my work place, like on what conditions an employee could be terminated as for misconduct, a verbal and or written warning is required and even if this misconduct continues then employee could be terminated, etc.; and although "no disciplinary things" happened in my case other than the annual performance review through which management decided to raise my salary which is also little bit higher than budget but through a new contract that restrict my term of employment to one year, but other staffs got raise without changing their terms of employment - is this a matter of "work place discrimination" as well.

And in case if I say "no" what might be the possible consequences - "the management terminates me with notice and not give me any more job offer" - could you please advice me on the basis Alberta's employment rules, besides, could the organizational policy be able to protect my rights like although there are no disciplinary issues with me, can the management still terminate me for saying no to the new contract bypassing the organizational procedures of termination.

Thanks again flowery and your comments are highly appreciable.

I'm afraid I have no idea about Canadian employment law. Might I suggest you find a Canadian forum to ask your question on? It's unlikely any experts in Canadian law will see it on here.

A Canadian forum would be Great, flowery;

And assuming the employment rules all over the same "in general" - could you please advise me, if any possible protection I might get from internal policies and procedures for termination etc. related to 'not accepting the new contract, saying that I would rather stick to my current employment contract which is still in good effect.

Thank you, flowery.

Flowery is very experienced and helps a lot of people on here but as she has told you she does not know Canadian employment law and as a professional she wouldn't want to give you incorrect advice so you really need to find a Canadian forum instead.

thanks - could you please give me any link for Canadian forum

Perhaps try Google. This is a UK based parenting forum, it's pretty unlikely anyone will be able to direct you to a Canadian employment issues forum.
Good luck
