Help needed for son

Hi
Im just wanting a bit of advice regarding my ds, the job he was doing and the fact he hasnt been paid.

My DS was taken on as a customer service apprentice 2 weeks ago.He was paying bus fare to get to the job every morning but because he has been so desperate for work he was happy to do it, he has a young son himself and has felt pretty useless being out of employment and although the wage was only £100 a week he was happy to be working.

After 3 days in this job his boss told him once business started taking off his wage would go up, so he assumed he was doing a good job, however a few days later he was told that the company didn't have time to train an apprentice and that they were laying him off!

Not only was he devastated at losing the job, when he tried to ring the boss and his associate to ask for his weeks pay that was due (they never requested any bank details) both of them hung up on him and then blocked his phone number. Knowing this was very odd, he went into the office the next day with his bank details and asked the receptionist If he could have the weeks wage put into his bank account. He was assured it would be in his bank by last Friday and surprise, no money has gone in.

Who should he speak to about this, he wants to go back to the office but Im urging him not too as I think he is wasting his time, he should be paid for the time he was there and I think the company have treat him disgustingly, I am aware companies get paid by the Government to take on apprenticeships and I do wonder If my Ds has just been used to get the grant to help a company that is obviously struggling?

He did go to the police but they have told him they cannot help him and although I have mentioned CAB would be a good idea, he lives miles from the nearest office and is quite frustrated at the fact that he has to fight at all to get what is owed to him, he is only 17 years old and desperate to work and this has been a huge kick in the teeth for him.

Who can help him?

CAB definitely would help, you can email them via their website or write. Otherwise would his job centre be able to help?

Well they have to pay a large fine if they are found not to be paying minimum wage. This happened to my husband.

However, taking them to an employment tribunal is no good as you have to pay to do that.

What you need is as much evidence of his being offered employment there, how much salary was agreed and the circumstances of his departure. Then contact these people: www.gov.uk/pay-and-work-rights-helpline

HMRC will come round and put the wind up them, but they can only really do anything if you have evidence.
