Changing your work/career

EmmaMcDevitt · 11/02/2015 16:35

Hi all, I'd love your input on something. I'm running some workshops for women who'd love to change their work/careers (to do something that's more fulfilling or fits in better with their children), but who don't know either what to do instead or how they could make it happen. If you can relate to that, what could you get from a workshop that would make it potentially life-changing? Thanks very much. Love Emma

Pursue- isn't that a bit of an advert for the franchise or whatever and not really answering the question?

Emma- what are your qualifications?
I run workshops like that and I'm a qualified coach with 10 years' experience. If you are running these session you should have very clear outcomes and means of achieving those. I don't really understand your question, to be honest.

Hi Emma, I think it could be helpful to stress the long game. That change can be slow but that getting new qualifications is worth it if it helps balance.

I think those quick fix jack-it-in-and -sell-cupcakes-on-the-Internet things are not going to suit everyone.

If you don't know what your clients want from the workshop, how can you deliver it?
I run these types of workshops and have a very clear agenda of what I'm offering - it's the selling point behind them.

Thanks for your input AddToBasket. Everlearning, I'm a qualified coach too. I like to ask for input to check what issues people are feeling most keenly.

Still not sure what you are asking, but will have a stab at it. I went self-employed because I wanted a better work/quality of life balance. Fed up of being stressed out trying to juggle things. I have less money now, but more time for family and friends. I needed to adjust my thinking to accomodate this, and also to accept that I no longer have the same work 'status', despite being the same person.

Any use to you OP, or clear as mud? Grin

Sorry for the delay in replying SpongeBobJudeyPants. This is exactly the sort of thing I was after and thank you so much for your input.

Hi. I am going to try and answer this, assuming that you are talking about running workshops for people thinking of going self-employed. Assuming this is the case, everyone is going to have a different idea (may be cupcakes, beauty, holistic therapy etc). But the common goal would be how to take that idea and make it happen. So advice on making a business plan, setting up, marketing, whether to go sole trader or ltd company, insurance. The whole model really. Alongside that, maybe some confidence boosting/motivational stuff - speakers maybe? Depends if you are talking about a one day course or over several weeks. Any help?!
