So I've been in my current job 5+yrs but just want out now. I've landed myself a job interview next week, however after applying they've since told me it's only for a 2yr secondment. This already made me start doubting it. However on top of this, after our holiday this summer we want to start trying for a baby. If i did fall whilst i was in this secondment job, where would i stand with maternity pay? (That's if I even get the job!). And if i fell towards the end of the 2yr secondment, I'm assuming there is a high risk of me not getting any maternity pay? Please don't advise me to wait trying for a baby. I'm almost 30 with no children!

If you're not even 30 yet there's bags of time, but leaving that aside, is this new job at the same organisation? If it's for two years why is it a secondment rather than a fixed term contract?

Secondments usually involve continuous service and then returning to the previous role, so maternity pay entitlements wouldn't be affected.

No, it's with a completely new company. They said over the phone its now a 2yr secondment so the only thing I can think of is the person who is currently in the position i have applied for is doing another project for 2yrs so the job is left open for them. I think its too big a risk.

So it's someone else going on secondment and the job is a two-year fixed term contract to cover that? Why is it too big a risk? You have no job security for the first two years of any job anyway.
