I havent a clue where to start, think I need to brush up on my non existant computer skills, also I need a cv done

I went to the local library and the person who was there to help me sat on the next pc to me looking at shopping sites and ummed and ahhedd at me and was effin hopeless, there was no one else to ask, she was the local careers advisor for this area!!

can anyone tell me where to start?

My local college offers free classes in computer skills (funded by the council I think). Is there a college near you? If not there are sometimes classes elsewhere (like in schools on weekends or evenings) and if you google "adult education computer classes" for your area, you may find there are free classes running that you could join.

In terms of a CV, if there isn't a job club operating near you (mine operates out of our library, but isn't run by library staff!) then maybe you could think about a skills swap - you could see if there's someone who could help you, in return for you helping them with something. Some churches have volunteers who offer help like this. I'm guessing you have already tried asking in the job centre and not found a lot of help Smile

Good luck - you sound really motivated and I'm sure you'll soon be feeling confident in your skills.

If she was the local careers adviser she presumably works for the National Careers Service. Did you not get an action plan and an evaluation form?

If she wasn't National Careers Service go on to their website to find your nearest centre.

I dont know who she worked for, maybe the council as it was in a library? She was bloody hopeless and I'd changed my day off to go.

I'll try the National Careers Service, thanks.

Good luck.

The National Careers Service work in libraries where I am, but a formal session should have resulted in an action plan and an evaluation form.

(I was working on one of their contracts until recently).
