Dormant Ltd Company - self assessment?

I've messed up I think. I had a Consultancy Company which started in April 2013. I did very little with it as I had one client who used me ad-hoc. Took less than £3k turnover and by the time I took out expenses, about £1k for myself which is still sitting in my spare bank untouched.

My finance friend told me to file the Accounts as Dormant, which I've just done.

Do I now need to file a Self Assessment too? I'm confused as I haven't done anything with the money I made but obviously because it is a Ltd Company I set up (just me as the Director) I don't know if Companies house talk to HMRC. The account is Dormant now as I've done nothing with it since Dec 2013.

I'm guessing I need to do a Self Assessment
Help!?

Just phone HMRC - that's what I'd do...

Yes you do!

What is the year end for the company? What profit did you report for the company in your accounts? The company was not dormant in the year that you made the £1k profit.

Are you registered as self employed with HMRC? You should be! If not, call them now.

You will also need to submit a corporation tax return, did you receive a notice about this from HMRC? This is due 9 months and 1 day after your year end.

Did you submit your annual return to Companies House?

Is your spare bank account in the company name or your own? If your own you need to repay it to the company within 9 months of your year end or there will be an additional CT burden.

Even though you did not do much through the company there is a lot of admin / legsl responsibilities involved in setting up a limited company which need to be met even if turnover has been low.

I think I've royally fucked up with this Blush I shouldn't have set it up as Ltd to begin with and now it's a mess. For how much I made it is not worth the hassle and now I need to seek (and pay) for some professional advice.

The Company wouldn't have been dormant in the year it traded (24/4/13 - 23/4/14) but I've gone and submitted it as though it is with a dividend paid out (to me as only director) of roughly £1k. The Companies House website let me do this and now I can't go back on it. I don't think I've done it right at all.

I didn't have a Company account either, I just had one client and one amount of money go in to my old HSBC account (in my name). I think I've just completely not looked in to the responsibilities I have as a director of a ltd company and messed up Blush il'l sort it with an accountant and pay them to do it as I genuinely don't know what I should have done.

It is all very fixable so try not to worry! Definitely see an accountant, and preferably a Chartered one.

You don't fancy some freelance work rowing? Grin I'd pay as I am worrying about it and don't want to call HMRC as I might drop myself in it for not doing what I should have done. I'm also unreasonably annoyed at my friend who was suppose to help me and then didnt really give me the right advice.
