is it worth signing on if you are the 16k threshold to get ni payments if you're self employed

Surely if you're self employed, you're not eligible to sign on as you're not looking for work?

Self employed people pay their own NI contributions.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Do you mean that you are aelf employed and earning under the threshold to pay class 2 NI contributions (about £5k or so) and wondering whether paying them voluntarily would be a good idea?

If you have a self employed profit of over about £8k or so then you will need to pay class 4 NI on the amount over the about 8k.

no whether it is worth signing on to get ni contributions if you've paid voluntary contributions anyway... if you won't get benefits
