Accredited Courses - Phoney or Fake???

Not sure this is quite the right forum but I figure someone will know....

I'm looking at on-line courses to get my brain working again and possibly moving into a different field of work. The problem is a lot are 'approved' by various organisations that mean nothing to me. Specifically at the moment is CPD Approves nutrition course. Their website looks decent enough but what does that prove? I don't want to be applying for jobs with a Mickey Mouse qualification.

Thank you!

To be frank I wouldn't consider anything in that field which wasn't part of the Open University. There are SO many Mickey Mouses out there and especially in slightly "woolly" subjects...I'm not saying Nutrition is not a worthy field of course but it's one of those subjects which is easy to fake if you happen to be in the education game for a quick buck.

Same with creative writing, counseling and similar.

Check out The Nutrition Society's website. The title 'Nutritionist' is going to be protected soon I believe and The NS will approve qualifications. Think they have a list of courses on their site.

Many proper universities now have online courses. If you are in doubt, always go for a reputable physical university, or OU.
Those courses are probably less advertised than Mickey Mouse courses, but they will be on the Universities' webpage.

I would look out for City and Guilds, OCN, NFER etc accredited . Also SFA funded.
