Requesting flexible hours when returning to work

Im a little way off yet returning to work after having DC2, infact I have a little way to go before I even finish for Mat Leave.
Basically, I'll be due DC2 in August, DD1 will go to f/t school in Sept, so all being well I should be returning to work April 2016. What I'm wondering is, I work for the NHS in admin. I really really really do not want to work during half terms, but will work school hours the rest of the time.

Is there any NHS employees out there that have returned to work & requested Term Time only working?? I know it states on the Intranet that it can be requested, but I'd like to know if there is anyone that has requested it & been able to work these hours?? What was your reasoning for requesting this hours & on what grounds did the employer agree to them?

Any help, much appreciated. :-)
Thank you

Are you thinking of term time only, or just needing the half terms off?

And are you thinking of reduced hours during term time as well?

If I've read correctly, you would be asking to go from (roughly) 40 hrs per week, 46 weeks per year to 20 hrs a week, 39 weeks per year. That would be less than 50%. How would the remainder of you job be covered? Is it the sort of job you could put down for 6 weeks in the summer?

We had some people working 3 day weeks. They were asked to go full time, but negotiated full time in term time, to build up time in lieu to average at 4 day weeks. Basically they get extra holiday to use in the school holidays. But they all have cover, and we are quiet over the summer as many European factories shut for august.

Good luck. My suggestion would be to think through how your employer would cope with your proposed hours, and the job still be done.
