I've been out of the market for 10 years and need to brush up my skills. Lots of job specify writing for SEO so I need to get myself on a course to learn about this. Money's quite tight so any suggestions gratefully received. I'm London-based BTW.

I'm sure someone will come up with better ideas, but if money's tight, I wouldn't go on a course. Just Google and read what comes up, and practise by setting up your own website. You need to target humans, then think search engine. Or do you want to go on a course so you have some evidence?

Thanks Cret. That's a good idea. Just feel I could do with immersion into an environment that is current iykwim, rather than looking in from outside it!

I used to do this and was never asked of evidence of being on a course, I just had to submit an example.
If money is tight it might be a waste to do an unnecessary course.

Hiya. A lot of freelance copywriters who have their own websites blog about SEO, as well as other things. You can pick up really good tips from reading blogs. Also, some of the website providers like Moonfruit have their own guides on SEO. Hope this helps.

You can pick up lots of tips online and from blogs and books as a pp has said.

Keep in mind many (although not all) of the 'specific' SEO jobs are for content farms who want key words embedded in copy, which doesn't really work anymore and pays absolute buttons and tends to go out to the content farms. Whereas the 'good' jobs don't stress that aspect as much - they're just looking for good writers who can produce good content.

I'd more focus on writing some samples, maybe doing a couple of lo/no costs jobs to get your portfolio up to date and taking it from there.

Spend your money on networking events, local chamber of commerce, etc.
