Sick review

I am a nervous wreck. Received a letter today from HR (work for NHS). Saying I need a meeting on stage 1 of the sickness policy. I had three seperate days off in the last 12 months. I was feeling quite good about my sickness as it has been worst in years before. I seem to catch every single bug there is going Hmm. The thing that has tipped it I think was going home 2.5 hours early off a late shift (was oncall and working for 6 hours during the night). I am not a good sleeper. So trying
to sleep after this is a
nightmare! Then still have to
get kids to school before my
late shift etc. anyway to cut it short , I said I had to go as I
no longer felt safe to practise. I no know on these rare occasions others have not had it put down as sick. My DH says I am over worrying but I am mortified as I take my job very seriously and would never time unnecessary time off. Anyone else been to one of these meetings or can tell me what will happen?

You've hit a trigger in the Sickness and Absence policy so they have to do it. You should be entitled to take someone with you to support you (although not to advocate for you or argue that they are wrong).
Inbuilt into that Policy should be a mechanism for supporting you with any issues you have regarding illness, so do put your side forward particularly if the illnesses are work related in any way.

Your DH is right, try not to make yourself even more ill with the worry as you're not alone in hitting a sickness trigger and there are many reasons for people needing absence for this and various other reasons. It's the only recourse an employer has to identify possible problems and to assist in solving those problems if they can.

I wouldn't worry.
I work for the NHS and have friends who have had stage 3 meetings.
It's just bureaucracy and red tape, but take union representation if you're concerned (they have to allow this and you can change the date or time if your union rep can't make the original appointment). HTH.
