Has anyone got any advice for threats of intentionally getting me fired?

My dad had a 'complaint' made about him at work and it got completely blown out of proportion and was told he could face a suspension - anyway after a couple of days of worrying it has turned out that it wasn't really a complaint about him specifically after all and the head office just took it upon themselves to escalate it, but what's happened is his manager was supposed to call the customer to sort this out and didn't bother.

It has now came to light he is being sloppy in his work and not following company procedures and is now facing a disciplinary and is phoning him up saying that he has kid and a family and if he gets the sack he is going to make sure my dad does to. Despite the fact that he is no longer in trouble and did nothing wrong in the first place

He saw this guy as someone he could trust before however when he believed he may be facing suspension he didn't care about the fact my dad has a family ect aswell and just hung him out to dry basically.

Sorry but of a long one I just wondered if anyone had any advice?....

Btw he has already informed his union of what is going on and I have told him to keep a diary if the comments he makes. My dad is a very good man and is good at his work, he just wants to help people, I'm so angry about this!

Sorry I don't think I made it clear I was having a bit of a rant - my dad's manager is being sloppy and not following procedures

I'm glad you've clarified, I couldn't really get who was who in the first post.

So in relation to your dad's own issue, it 'wasn't really a complaint about him' but the head office decided to escalate, I'm not really sure what that means. But if I were him I would be wanting that to be resolved properly, precisely so that this manager can't hold it over him any further.

I would then make a complaint about this manager, ideally with some proof of his behaviour. I'm assuming he is making these remarks where there are no witnesses? How would your dad feel about recording him?

How is the manager suggesting he's going to get your dad fired too? Is he threatening him that unless he does [x] he will make that happen?

Basically the head office thought it was a mistake on my dad's part when in fact it was a mistake on his managers part by not phoning the customer - this has now been completely resolved in regards to my dad and they have apologised to him for the mistake so his manager wouldn't be able to hold that against him at all.

He wouldn't be able to hold it against him because it has gone higher than my dads manager now and the higher office are the one that's cleared my dad and realised it's the managers fault which is now why the managers in trouble.

Yeah he is making the remarks over the phone to him obviously in private - I said try and record him doing it - they all have iPhones so I'm sure after LOTS of practise I could show him how to do it but my dad seems worried that he will get in trouble for not declaring that he is recording the call, personally I don't see how they will know and he would only use it if it came to that.

I'm not sure how he is trying to do it but by the sounds of it he is making my dad's life as hard as possible and finding any excuse to try and pull him up, my dad obviously abides by the rules and does everything by the book but everyone makes mistakes and I don't see why he should even have to look over his shoulder in the first place!

I'm so annoyed with this silly man! I hope I was a bit clearer this post haha sorry!!

Your dad's right about recording the call but I would be tempted to do it anyway purely to act as a 'memory aid' - I think it's distributing the recording that's illegal rather than the actual making of it. (Could be wrong, though).

It sounds as if your dad just needs to make sure that he watches his back, tries to ensure there's a witness to their conversations, and puts everything in writing to avoid ambiguity later. As the manager is now under threat for having failed to rectify the mistake your dad was originally accused of, if he tries to drag him into it I think it will be obvious to all that it's sour grapes for having got caught. I would doubt your dad has anything serious to worry about. I would still put in a complaint, though.

When the outcome of the disciplinary is known (assuming manager doesn't get fired) your dad might want to ask to be moved away from said manager.

Yeah I guess so, i think it's difficult because he works In particular area and with a particular group of colleagues he is friendly with - doesn't seem fair that he should have to move because of his managers problems.

I think they way to go is to keep a diary, keep his union rep up to date and maybe try and record the conversations if I can show him how, and then see what happens at the disciplinary and go from there, I think he is hesitant to make a complaint too soon without all the evidence and so it doesn't get back to his manager. (It shouldn't really and should be confidential I know but i just think the whole company is ridiculous if I'm honest)

I know my dad can handle himself and he will be fine but I worry about him he just wants to get on with his job so I think I just needed a bit of a rant! Hmm

You can't record people without letting them know first and giving them the option of terminating the call. It couldn't be used as evidence, and if discovered, he could be in a lot of trouble.

He should log every call though - date, time, duration, who was on the call and notes of what was said.

No I researched it and in the UK you can as long as you are not planning to share it with any third parties, and at this stage I'm not sure who's going to be caring if my dad recorded some calls to back him up as his boss was threatening him.
