3D printed portrait business start-up

Hi, I have recently started a business that scans and prints out people in 3D, so sculpture basically. I've gotten feedback that parents would like this for their child because they can "preserve" their child as they are at that particular age. I'd just like some opinions from the forum to see if parents would be interested in this sort of thing. I've attached some images of my work, each bust is 3 inches high. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link to my website on here but I'll provide it on request.

not my taste I'm afraid. they look a bit freaky. I imagine the model has to stay still for a while so can't smile?

but some might like it!

Yes about 2 minutes. You can smile but no teeth.

Here's a video, this might show what it's about better than the pictures

Is it possible to quote people in this forum?

They offer something similar in my local Asda. Sorry, but it doesn't appeal to me at all and I've never seen anyone getting it done so I don't know how popular or profitable it will be.

They do, but it's not permanent as far as I know and only in a few places in the country. My business aims to make it mobile and more accessible i.e I go to wherever you live and do it there just like a normal photographer would.

can you do it for pets? maybe if asleep? I could imagine a curled up mini cat being much cuter than a staring person.

printer5343 · 08/10/2014 22:49

Yes if they are asleep, I can capture anything so long as it is still.

Just look creepy to me I'm afraid.

What are you using? An artec scanner? Are you outsourcing your printing or doing it on a projet?
Problem is ASDA are doing it as a loss leader to attract customers to their stores so it is difficult to compete with them.

I, too, find this a bit creepy. Miniature people that look like they are sinking into / rising out of the table... And it only really works for adults, as they have to sit still for 2 minutes.
I can see it working for sleeping babies or pets, at a push, but only if the whole body is done.
