Has anybody used the services of a careers coach? I am contemplating doing so but a little deterred by the cost! I would be interested to hear from anyone with tips or recommendations

Most of them are slightly qualified charlatans. See also "life coaches"

What do you need?

Hi, I use a life coach but she also does career coaching too. Her Facebook page is Lucy Stanyer Life Coaching. She is very nice, approachable & very good. Tell her that Michelle recommended her.

Good luck. Smile

Just a wastage of cash

My friend used the careers counselling service at the Tavistock careersindepth.com/ and rated it.

I think the comments above are a bit harsh - it depends what you want to get out of coaching. If you want to work through 'psychological' questions about what you want from work, I don't see why a counsellor would be any less appropriate than it would be for any other kind of problem and challenge.

If you are looking to advance your own or another specific career, I'd look at other approaches because I don't think you can expect a general coach to understand specific careers. If you went to university, there are often well-priced graduate careers services alumni careers networks where you can connect with people in particular careers to find out more. Larger workplaces also often run mentoring or coaching programmes that can get you some support
