I started working for a big supermarket (rhymes with Bainsburys) 2 months ago and after panicking about every little thing for those solid two months, I've finally found my feet- i get along with everyone, even been to some parties with them. But today I had to call in sick. It's not the end of my probation period either! But when I phoned today and spoke to my manager (who I NEVER see) she said I had to have a return to work interview and to talk to any of the managers. My question is how do I get a hold of any managers if I never see them? I've been told I can't leave on my next shift without speaking to a manager. Should I just go to customer service and ask of there's any managers I could speak to? It's my first job and I'm so new that I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do?? Please help, I know it's stupid to get nervous about these things but that's just me! Blush

Call Customer Services, and ask them to find you a manager. If they can't, request a call back today, and then arrange an interview time. It's usually, in my experience, 10 minutes before your next shift starts. The Back To Work interview will literally be them asking if you are now okay, and if you need any additional support at work. If this is your first day off, it won't be any more than that. They may, depending on individual store policies, have to remind you about how many days off you can have before they have to consider a disciplinary, and they may mention you having a tendency to have, for example, Saturdays off - if you've had a few sick days fall on a Saturday.

Honestly nothing to worry about.

(I used to help with the grad scheme there!)

Thank you, thank you! What's a call back?? So I'll just go to Customer Service 10-15 mins before my shift? Thanks though, that's great!

They'll leave a tannoy call for the manager, so that they phone you back as soon as they are free. It tends to be the easiest way to get hold of a manager there!

But yes, really don't worry. It'll be fine :)

DS1 worked at Sainsburys for 12 hours a week for the two years he was at 6th form college before he went to Uni.
He once had to call in sick for his 4 hour Monday evening shift. He really was grilled about what was wrong with him, unlike anything that ever happened to DH & I in our working lives.
I just think that Sainsburys has quite a strong way of dealing with staff sickness. DS1 never had to call in sick again and returned to work with no repercussions.
