I am 28, have worked as a housekeeper in a hotel, been a childminder, a cleaner and stacked shelves of an evening in Wilkos.

I don't work at all at the mo, but Ds starts school next sept and I donot want to be sat at home on my ass all day, but then neither do I want just any old job.

I did want to do nursing but cos of current circumstances I can't, and I also don't think I am quite up to the training.

I don't mind training to be whatever it is but need to be sure of what I want to do first iykwim.

This was my problem at school, I just didn't know what I wanted to do and so did bugger all.

Why don't you g back to childminding?

CarolinaMoon · 24/09/2006 19:06

can you get some more GCSEs to widen your choice? or an NVQ or similar (not sure what they are called atm)?

If you aren't confident about nursing, could you do some auxilliary-type work in hospitals? (sorry, don't know what quals you need for that).

I seem to remember the learndirect site is good at that

nutcracker · 24/09/2006 19:11

Really really really don't want to do childminding again ever, but thanks for the suggestion.

Will try Learn Direct, I always forget about them.

I have just started doing my English gcse, but feel like i should do more LOL.

can you do maths as well?

littlerach · 24/09/2006 19:16

What do/did you enjoy when you worked?
Sometimes best to look t it like that, rathet than what you'd necessarily begood at.

nutcracker · 24/09/2006 19:22

I could do Maths but not sure when I could start now as I've missed the start of the course and plus I am CRAP at Maths and also scared of it LOL.

I have never enjoyed any of the jobs I have done really tbh.

I said I liked shopping at school and so they signed me up for a YTS in retail without me even agreeing to it. I lasted 2 weeks, doing over 40 hours a week for £30 before my dad rang the course tutor and told him to stick it LOL.

You mean you didn't excel in the History class :0!!!!

Why not apply for any posts in the hospital, that may help you decide if nursing is for you. Aux nurse, cleaner - anything working on the wards really - might help you see if it's what you want to do!

nutcracker · 24/09/2006 19:45

The problem with auxilary, nursing or most hospital jobs is the shifts unfortunatly.

I know what type of jobs I don't want LOL, no animals, no old people, not a huge amount of responsibility.

Just read your thread. If you pop into or ring your nearest college, find out if they run the free courses in english / maths etc. It's a Government driven initiative (I've forgotten the name of it now - maybe I'll remember in a mo) and it assesses your level of maths or english, for example, and then they give you coaching on a computer / small group sessions to enable you to get a recognised certificate in English or Maths. I'm really kicking myself for not remembering what it's called. Maybe Learndirect or something....I wish they did memory renewal classes
