I start a new job on Monday. I am v excited and very nervous! It is a head of dept role. For background, I had been in my old role 5 yrs and had 2 dc's in that time taking 18 months mat leave in total. I went back to old role following mat leave in June but due to various reasons it was definitely time to move on. Fast forward, I start my new role on Monday. 4 days a week with flexi time and closer to home. I finished my old role yesterday. I am v nervous, new role is a slight step up, I am a mum of 2 pre-schoolers, DH has a busy job. I am worried about juggling everything but excited. I know I have a lot to offer and I am really excited to work for the new place.... but oh goodness the newbie nerves are setting in at the start of the weekend!

Any tips for starting a new job? All advice gratefully received!

Congratulations Smile

Is the pay better? Will you be working less days than usual?

I understand the newbie nerves, I started a new job on Tuesday after4 years in my previous job and it was so scary. I still feel like the new person, everyone is so different to me and I left a group of amazing people I worked with because new job didn't have any travel costs and was better paid.

No tips for your first day because I reverted back to a shy, awkward 13 year old who was too scared to talk to anyone, so I shall leave you with hope that you do a much better first day than I did Grin

I'm starting a new job as well on Monday and can already feel the butterflies. I've been working from home for a while now and am
nervous about re-entering a big office. No advice but good luck!

Congratulations!

9 weeks ago I returned to work after 18 months off (mat leave from old job plus an unplanned break). I've taken a step up and do four days, but have reduced my commute. I love it. I've become so much more efficient. Was worried about the work/life balance but am amazed by what I am achieving. Nerves are natural, but try to enjoy it. I am sure you willSmile. Good luck!

How's it going ? I'm starting back to work in three weeks after 7 years as a self-employed SAHM. I worked evenings and weekends so did all the childcare etc.

Im terrified of leaving dd and ds at nursery but really looking forward to it as well.

It is going really well. Positive on day 3! Feels like a good fit Smile Need to get used to new commute and get my head around what needs doing but it feels like I can make a real contribution and shape the role. All v positive. I am already much happier, I knew I was v unhappy in my last role but perhaps not quite so much. Lovely colleagues make a big difference and everyone has been v kind with the newbie! The home/work balance is good and kids even seem happier probably feeding off my change of attitude.

Hope everyone else who started new roles are also feeling good about things too?

I do feel that I was ready for the next work chapter and new start after having had two babies. It is almost like a new identity to match the new label of mother. Kind of shedding your skin and evolving. Grin Grin
