websites / email addresses

Very basic question about domain names for websites and email addresses...

currently I have a wordpress blog and I have a web-based email address from mail.com but i am thinking of going 'more professional'... who is best to buy my domain name from? And can I get the webaddress to point to my wordpress blog?

And the bigger question, how does the email work. If I buy something like @workaddress.co.uk then how do I actually email? Particularly on the go. I do not use outlook currently because so much of my work is done from my iphone/ipad.

So, do I forward the new email address to my existing mail.com or something like gmail? When I reply then how do i make the replies go from @workaddress.co.uk rather than my exisiting email or the gmail address?

I currently manage enquiries for a client's website and they have a horrible horrible web interface (squirrel mail) for their enquiries web address so I am wary.

Any suggestions? Either answers to my questions or a basic guide to domain names websites and email addresses for small businesses - is there a book?

Thanks.
[I will also post this to business start-ups I think]

I used 123 reg to get a domain name, and pay for an email address from it - I haven't actually set up a website, just using the email at the mo. I have been able to get the email account added to my iPhone and ipad (123 reg have instructions on how to do this), so I can check my freelance email account whenever, alongside my two personal email accounts. I'm pretty sure you can divert to gmail, but I have never needed to so haven't done so.

The actual 123 webmail website interface isn't great, tbh, but I don't often use it because I can access via ipad etc.

I'd be interested in what others do, mind - I've done enough to get by, but I sure there's cleverer ways of doing this stuff.

Thanks Manic.
123reg is who the client I work for bought their domain from. Interesting.
I've also found some gmail info online.

Still interested in other peoples solutions. I think the time is coming to separate my work and personal inboxes.

I use Squirrel hosting, who are based in Sheffield, which is helpful if you need to customer support. I used to use an American one, but when I tried to cancel they suddenly got very difficult to contact etc.

You should just be sent to import your existing WordPress blog into your new hosted site. Iirc I just had to install WordPress.org then importing the existing site was quite straightforward.

I've set up my email so I can read it on my phone. It wasn't difficult to set up, though as a back-up all my mail is also copied to a gmail account too.
