is anyone an ironing lady or have an ironing lady?

i currently do some cleaning for a couple of familys in their houses and also do some ironing for them most weeks. they pay me £6 per hour.

sometimes i can get a huge pile of ironing done in an hour or so and was thinking that maybe i would be better off working from home, ironing, charging by the item.

how much should i charge per item? would i need to provide hangers and send it all back on them?
how much should i get done in say an hour? i have not had any complaints before but was wondering if i am thorough/precise enough.

any advice appreciated

We use an ironing service. They charge by weight (not sure exactly how much it is per kilo) and an average black bag costs me approx. £20. They pick up once a week and return the following day. I provide my own hangers, otherwise they will provide them, but only wire ones.

The guy I uses charges per item, but it works out fairly reasonable. Shirts are 70p, most other things about 50p, bedding is about £1.50 (double), or £2 (king size) per item.

oops, forgot to say, items returned next day with hangers (wire) and wrapped in plastic like dry cleaning (5-6 items per bag)

wonder where i can get hangers and bags cheap then?

Our ironing lady charges a £1 per lb of ironing, except for shirts which are 70p.
Works out at about £20 for a bin liner full.
She picks up on a Tues and drops it back on a Thurs.
Wire hangers and covered in plastic bags provided.

bloomin heck plastic covers? please not? try the same price without plastic covers and see if they take you up on it, it would never occur to me to want them from someone doing my ironing, i like clothes to smell of the iron and to see a lovely folded pile, not a horrible staticky collection of plastic which I have no space to hang up? at least offer the option without?

you could even make it a USP, ironingwithoutplastic.com

peckarollover was starting an ironing business wasn't she? haven't seen a post from her in a while, but maybe try searching, she got quite a lot of reponses.
