Things moved very fast from deciding I would look for work this morning to an interview tomorrow.

I have four children youngest starts school this term.

However I am panicking. The job stated business hours but I have been informed it's a seven am start though they said they may be able to be flexible. It's a six pm finish so what can I do regarding childcare?

Breakfast club starts at ten past eight and afterschool club finishes at half five I think.

Are there any child minders that might watch them and drop them into school then pick them up and watch them for an hour afterward or is that ridiculous.

What do lone parents do in the school holidays? I haven't really had any time to think this through thought it might be a while until interviews Shock

13 hour days? so 65 hours a week?

Those are very long hours - presumably they mean they operate between those hours and you would be expected to work an 8 hour day around those times? If you are working those hours everyday, that is a 50 hour week. Otherwise, let's hope it's a fairly well-paid role in order for you to afford before and after-school care for four children.

Do you have a DH/DP who can do some of the drop-offs/pick-ups? Can you negotiate to do a couple of shorter days so you do pick-ups sometimes?

Yes, you can find childminders who can have your children for an hour (or two in your case) before school, bring them and pick them up afterwards. You will need more than an hour of after-school though if you are not finished until 6, plus travel time. Not all childminders do before and after school care and you need one who can get to your particular school.

Lone (and other parents) use a mixture of annual leave, holidays, family, friends and probably holiday clubs or childminder for holidays. It is a constant juggling act and expensive if you have several children.

Surely it's an 11 hour day so 55 hours, minus lunch?

Sorry my error

It would need to pay really well to make it worth if.

To answer your question, yes a childminder would look after them and drop to breakfast club / afterschool. But you're paying for four lots if childcare a lot of traipsing for your children. You could skip the school clubs and just use a childminder.
