Ive sold all household items i no longer want which has made me about £300. Its so easy and being a stay at home single mum it would be fantastic to do this as a living or to at least make some regular money. Any ideas of a way to do it. Anyone else do this? Need some tips and ideas

you can do it with second hand pushchairs etc - buy them from e.g. Freeads, where people often don't really know the value of what they're selling, then polish them up, do a good write-up on ebay and watch the money roll in.

I don't do it myself - an ebay seller told how she did it.

I imagine it works best if you live in a town with plenty of young families, so you've got a regular stream of products and don't have to travel far to pick them up.

ds puts ads in local paper wherever she is (Malta at the mo)and ebays what she buys.. shes been doing for years and has her own areas of expertise.

I know some people go to the states on a cheapy flight and buy up clothes which can be sold on for a profit - have a look and see what sells well on e bay before you go. Mind you the freeads idea is brilliant carolinamoon....

beware about large HEAVY items tho as cost a fortune (out of your prof) to send..

Hi - you can work for companies on there already as dropshipper. Basically you type up onto ebay on behalf of them and agree a % you will get. I bought something from ebay under the baby section called something along the lines of 'making money while stayign at home'. It was £2 and they send you a words document. I would send you the document but I deleted it as returning to my old job.

When I have typed this I will go onto to ebay and try get you a link.

I sell new toys and things which I buy in from a supplier, I sometimes do second hand books and things.

If picking up second hand stuff to sell on you need to do lots of research. Charity shops are not that cheap a source unless items go for quite a bit, I suppose with the right knowledge you could pick up stuff at bootsales and jumble sales. Pick and area that you know like baby stuff (fancy bedding sets can do well), ladies clothes, kitchen gadgets etc.

While I was looking for my old link from ebay - i also found this one which was similar. The seller I bought mine from was called willoliah so you could search for them. Hope it helps

That looks like the kind of thing I would run a mile from. I suppose some people do sell good info but a lot of these info/ ebook things are not so good.

Skribble · 13/09/2006 23:40

Don't let the cute baby and family pics reel you in.

I've been doing a bit of research on this (pretty cursory so far!) - there's a link on the ebay homepage to ebay "pulse" which shows you the top search terms in each category, so you can see what stuff people are searching for most (e.g. in women's clothes "Monsoon" is the top search term). Then I scuttle off to women's clothes and do a search on Completed Listings to see what has actually sold and how much for. Tbh there seems to be little profit in it from what I've seen so far, but then my research hasn't exactly been conclusive.

Sounds like you did well out of your household items ... could you buy similar things from smallads/charity shops etc and then sell them on?

Skribble · 14/09/2006 00:08

Agree looking at completed items gives a good idea of price and percentage of sold/ unsold.

I started keeping a little notebook of good sellers to refer to when out and about, noted down items when out then would check on Ebay once I got home.

Brand new Ikea stuff can sell for a profit, strange but true.

Molesworth · 14/09/2006 00:17

I guess the Ikea phenomenon is because buying a new Ikea item on ebay is a bit like the mail order that Ikea don't offer (but we wish they did)!

gemmum · 14/09/2006 13:48

i have a friend who used to pick up clothers from charity chops (with a good label) and sell them on, she maid a bit of money at it.

How about joining one of the party plan companies and selling things on ebay. I sell usborne books and i know some others do on there but don't know if its already been saturated.

another suggestion would be to look at buying some things wholesale splitting them up and selling individaully. no ideas as to what but i know you can get things cheaper in higher quantitys. i guess you've just got to find a gap in the market.

Today I found a pink Brora cashmere cardigan in Oxfam for £2.99, but I didn't buy it because it was a bit bobbly on the sleeves and I didn't think it would sell. I'm sooo indecisive!

FatThighs · 21/09/2006 07:40

you could specialise in a particular area - like something that you see at car boot sales which you know people collect.

Or go to collectables on ebay and list the items and then scour around for them.

I can never be bothered with ebay - have tried but cashing cheques for 89p, taking photos and going to the post office wasn't my thing. I know you could ask other mothers like me if they have stuff they want putting on ebay but can't be bothered witht he hassle - you could do all the listing and posting for a percentage of the sale - I would love soemone to do that for me!!!!!

FrannyandZooey · 21/09/2006 07:47

I used to buy and sell collectable children's books. Agree find a niche to specialise in and then research and focus on that.
