There are legal maximums for some jobs, but not for others, so you will have to be specific about what your role is. Eg doctors have maximum hours, lawyers don't.

As a starting point why not just talk to your employer about increasing your hours? They may have their own policies on maximum shifts.

Have a read of this section on maximum working hours and this section on rest breaks at work

In most jobs you are limited to EU working time regulations of a 48h working week, however in hospitality you are usually offered to sign an 'opt out' agreement which means you can work more. You still must have a 15 min rest break every 6 hours and have 11 hour break between shifts but this is rarely adhered to.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the EU working time directive is an average over a 13 (?) week period - so doctors do actually sometimes work over 48hr in one week (my DH record was 86hrs I think) but will then work fewer hours the following week so it balances out.

Not sure if that helps!
