can I ask for redundancy?

I work for a large company. I've been told that my current role is due to be downgraded in coming months, so my manager has tried to 'encourage' me to apply for other roles, varying between friendly encouragement and telling me that I need to find a new role quite aggressively.

I am feeling very demotivated by all this, I am one of a very few part timers and my company is quite poor at finding/providing part time roles (they are disorganised and rely on a lot of unpaid overtime from full timers, making part timers difficult for them to use).

I asked my manager if redundancy was on the cards, she seemed to think I didn't want it and reassured me that no, I wouldn't be made redundant. A couple of roles I've been encouraged for look stressful and not easy to do as part time (seems a less experienced manager agreed to place me, with no idea how I'd do work that doesn't fit in my working day...).

If these other roles are the same grade and similarish work to what I do now, do I have to take one? If I ask for redundancy, I assume the company could give it to me if they wanted to, but I don't think that they have to?

Thanks in advance!
