Managing a holiday property - what would be a fair wage?

My db and his partner are buying a second home in the village we are moving to next month, and have intimated to us (me and dh) that they would like us to "manage" it for holiday lets - not squared up all the details yet but I guess it will be taking bookings and all that entails, plus servicing the property (cleaning and minor repairs, gardening) and liaising with them over major issues (eg work which would involve calling in a professional, replacing white goods/furniture etc).

He has asked us to say what we would want paying for it. Dh and I think a percentage of the letting fees would be appropriate as it would reflect "fallow" periods when there is little for us to do.

Anyone any thoughts on this? What would be a fair percentage to ask for?

TIA [smile

agents charge 25-30% in england for getting bookings.

If you are getting the bookings i.e. advertising etc, and looking after it, I would suggest 40-50%, less a discount for family?

If they are getting the bookings or a third party is doing that then suggest you get 15-20% of bookings for 'looking after' it. In this I assume they pay all capital items e.g. linen, plates etc as well as furnishings.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good little side line to me. I wouldn't fall out with them over price though; be happy to compromise as you won't often get such a flexible 'job' offer!

Good luck.
