Phoenix trading cards - anyone doing this?

Hello, I've decided to sign up to this as I'm halfway through my maternity leave and want to see if I can try doing something for myself around my ds and not have to go back to work!
Is anyone else doing this with positive results? I have already spent £30 on the business kit, and toying with the idea of getting the offer pack for £150 but dh not at all keen due to the expense. His other big issue with it is that he thinks I won't have time to do anything with it with our 7 month old so the cards will just sit there. I know we can't afford it, really, but am hoping to get my money back and more! Such a dilemma! I was feeling really positive about it but now lots of doubts. I don't have a car at the moment so think that might be a hinderance for me but we do live in An area with lots in the near vicinity x

Hi Knackered - I do this, but these are the kinds of questions your sponsor should be able to help with. They might have a slightly vested interest in you getting the offer pack as they will benefit financially, but if your husband is slightly iffy about it, it might be better to try and cover your £30 fee first, so they you've got nothing to lose.

Hi knackered, I'm also quite interested in doing this but there's something in the back of my mind stopping me! I'm a SAHM to 2 lovely DCs and I really need to do something just for me. I previously tried Avon but it wasn't for me. I feel I'm more interested in cards etc than cosmetics but am nervous about taking that first step.

Madboys, can I please ask if there are specific targets to meet with Phoenix Trading? Can you sell as much or as little as you like? Please PM if it's easier. Thank you.

I've been a trader for 3 years. There are no sales targets with Phoenix, so you can sell as much or as little as you like. However, the amount you earn is directly related to how much you sell! I joined to stop my brain from turning to mush when my little boy was 2. I was also worried about selling when I started out, but I've had no difficulties. I really enjoy Phoenix, and I've met some lovely people through it too.

I know 2 people who did this and both of them gave up...main problem was their 'sponsor' I think...and their target groups.
Both had young DCs and were therefore trying to sell to their peer group. The sponsor more or less had the area covered anyway - and one group she considered 'hers' was an early years group. She did all the visits/fairs etc. And she therefore got all the customers/contacts of the new(ish) parents and once she had them she kept them.
The new traders were worried about treading on her toes -stealing her customers - but they were their natural target customers...
I hope that makes sense - the sponsor is very nice - not being mean - just protecting her own business
I just don't think in the circumstances there is space in this community for another trader...iykwim

Hi everyone,

I don't do Phoenix Cards, but have met a few people in the past that have and they seem to love it. I've just posted on another similar thread, that with most of these things you need to work out how much you want to make from it and how much (time, money, effort) you'd need to put in to make it work.

I do Usborne Books and it works really well for me. I already work 4 days a week so do this for a bit of treat money. Plus they make great gifts and it was only £38 to join.

I've heard good things about Phoenix but check how many there are in your area and if your sponsor is about certain areas, and see where else you approach. No harm in trying if you think there's an opportunity! x

Phoenix will tell you how many traders there are in a broad post code area. Phoenix did some research into trader locations and found that trader sales are higher in areas where there are more traders! Sounds totally opposite to what you would expect, but I know it is easier to sell where people already know the brand.

There is a huge market to sell Phoenix cards. Over 90% of the population sends cards, but only 1% of the cards sent in the UK are Phoenix. I live in a village with 500 houses. I'm the only trader here, and I wouldn't mind at all if another trader started up. I sell to about 5% of the village (and have more customers in the wider area), so another trader or two would make very little difference to me. I have several friends who have joined my team. We do have some friends in common, who were already my customers. However, they also have different circles of friends, family, colleagues and connections that I do not have. The fact that I'm also trading locally has not impacted on their ability to build a business, and we are also able to share events when someone else can't make it.

That's a long way of saying, don't be put off by there being other Phoenix Traders locally. There are plenty of sales out there. The only real way to find out if Phoenix is for you is to give it a go. When I decided to give it a go, I figured that the worst that would happen is that I would end up with a stock of lovely cards and stationery of I didn't manage to sell them. That was nearly 4 years ago.....
