If my working hours are 9-6 and i have to travel to a course for work which means staring from home at 6am and getting home at 7pm can i claim the travel time back?

Worth asking but surely you could only claim additional travel time? So if your commute is already 2hrs per day and they want you to travel 4, then theres less to enquire about

AChickenNamedDirk · 25/06/2014 19:50

I wouldn't. It's a short course.

Maybe enquire about any additional travel cost

Tbh. I'd think that question was a bit ridiculous.

chuckieegg2008 · 25/06/2014 19:59

I won't get any travel costs back a i didn't drive down or use my car.

chuckieegg2008 · 25/06/2014 20:02

At my work, the answer would depend on your pay grade. We work flexi time tho.

I wouldn't get any money, but would be able to work shorter days in the next week or so to recoup the time - but would still need to be at work between 9.30 and 3.30.

The guys who work for me would get time and 1/3 for before 7am, and after 6pm. They would also be able to claim the other extra hours back by working reduced hours in the coming week.

What are the other people who attended thinking about doing? I don't think there is any harm in asking, but then travel for work is quite common for us, so it is specified.

addicted yeah thats what i was hoping for to claim my time back at another time by working a shorter day sometime. Im only on £7.50 an hour.

Ask!
If someone came and said Its school assembly next week, would it be possible to turn up half an hour after core hours start, given I did that really long day last month, I'd say yes.

ThinkI'veBeenHacked - it would depend on the direction I was going. If work was on a natural route, and I went straight from home, I'd only get the extra journey time. If I lived closer to the final destination, I'd get the whole time, and leave from home - to save going in the wrong direction and meeting at work.

EBearhug · 25/06/2014 20:35

Ask. The worst that happens is they say no, but at best, you can claim travel time and/or expenses.

LIZS · 25/06/2014 20:38

Ask for the additional travel time as TOIL. How long does your journey normally take ?

chuckieegg2008 · 25/06/2014 21:01

lizs - journey usually takes 10 mins each way

I think it depends on the course. If it was something you asked to go on and the company paid, I'd say it'd be very cheeky to even ask.

If it was an obligatory 3-line whip, then ask.

If it was really important to you, it might have been better to ask before.

LittleBearPad · 25/06/2014 21:30

Why've you started two threads about this?

MsBug · 25/06/2014 21:40

We work flexitime so would bank the extra hours to take at a quiet time whenever that happens
