Covering letter

I've headed the letter 'Dear Sir/Madam' as it just goes to HR dept first.
So how do I sign it off - 'kind regards' or 'yours sincerely'
This CV and cover letter malarkey is very time consuming!
Thanks

The standard way of signing off a letter addressed to 'Dear Sir/Madam' is 'Yours faithfully'.

If you know their name & are writing 'Dear Ms Bloggs', it would be 'Yours sincerely'.

'Kind regards' is more informal & is often used on emails.

Good luck with your application!

Thanks.
Sir/madam seems a bit formal to me but not sure what else to write if it is not going to anyone in particular.

I would use "yours faithfully" with Dear Sir/Madam. I reserve "with kind regards" for people I have actually met/spoken to/dealt with before.

Don't worry about sir/madam sounding formal. No one will notice it. People only notice the greeting if it is odd or factually incorrect.

I put the name if I know the hiring manager's name or HR if it says 'please contact jane doe, hr manager' etc.

It's gone now. A bit stressful these job applications!
Thanks all.
