Hello! Does anyone work part time teaching but spread over 5 days? As a parent with a child in primary school and another in childcare but who will qualify for the 15 hours free from September, I may be asked to work my 0.6 timetable over 5 days rather than the three I currently do. Are there advantages? What should I look out for?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks.

I don't but know someone who does and she likes it.

Shorter days rather than 3 long ones. She comes in for a full day when it suits her to keep on top of marking/planning meaning less to take home. Also being in every day means she feels more part of school and doesn't miss things.

I hope your timetable works well for you!

I do. 0.7 spread over 5 days. No real advantages. People assume you are full time (I'm in secondary). Am cutting to 0.5 next year with at least two days off a week. Sorry x

Thank you for your advice - I think I will benefit financially by spreading over 5 days (childcare costs) and will try to work more in school to reduce work taken home. Any disadvantages are hereby Gove's fault.

Personally I have to say I think it would feel like being a full-timer, but with part-time pay. Would you not end up paying more in childcare for your youngest?

I suppose it depends whether you'd still be in ALL day, every day, i.e with big gaps in your timetable, or whether you're doing say 2 mornings, 2 afternoons and 1 full day (for example). Also, do you teach secondary or primary?
