Career Break dilemma

This is my first post on mumsnet despite being a lurker since penis beaker. My situation is this. I live in Ireland and am married with a baby. We are in huge negative equity on our apartment- about 150,000. We would love to move to a house €but not possible with house prices rising again and our negative equity. I really dislike my job. For the first year or so I got sick every single day before work. However it is a very specific career that I retrained for in my twenties and while I earn decent money it is still not enough to buy a house. My company is now offering career breaks where I would earn enough to cover bills for 3 years and am free to take up other employment or to study if i I wish. Things would be tight but we could manage and that is before I look for other work. My husband is all in favour of me taking it however I am more scared now that we have a baby. My immediate family are against it. My feelings are torn in that I do not want to stay in my chosen career however I am okay in my current department but I could get moved at any time to a department I hate. Sorry for the whine just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or has any advice.

Two things strike me. Firstly. Unless they are supporting you financially, what has it got to do with your immediate family. Secondly, do you actually have a plan for your career break, in terms of study, career change or similar, because I think you need that.
