secrecy regarding wage in job adverts

So I have a cunning plan regarding employing a housekeeper/cook for a temporary 6-8 weeks for my next childs birth (rather than the awful atmosphere and general unhelpfulness of family that made the time after my daughters birth too difficult for me) and I've started to try to research what that might cost.
But all job adverts are so damn coy about wages - all say things like 'generous or excellent rates for the right candidate' or just ignore the issue completely.
How do I find out what is currently the going rate for my area?
I don't want to underpay, but equally I can't afford to overpay as I'm currently trying to work out how much I need in the bank to realistically be able to afford our next baby. Any ideas?

Thats the main question but also if anyone has any thoughts on 2 other questions that lead on from that - Should I be offering a premium over the going rate as its just a temporary job? Also do I need to register as an employer for a temporary job like this?

Thanks

Offer £8.30/hour. More if in London. Also, offer an unspecified bonus which you can discuss in detail with a suitable candidate.
