Hello,
I'm going on mat leave in August and returning in September 2014. I work for a company split into two main locations. I work in a particular department that is sort of replicated at both sites so we can quickly address queries and local projects. In my local team, my boss has resigned and my colleague has announced she is not coming back from maternity leave. I'm the only other person in the team in my office.
My boss has talked to our new MD about how to cover my absence (and everyone else's) but I am not directly in the loop. He tells me 'you're leaving, why do you care?' I haven't been told if they're getting any cover, permanent cover, or mat leave cover, for example. It wouldn't surprise me if they switch all support to come from one office instead of both.
I'm wondering whether I should try to talk to the MD personally (my boss reports directly to him and is very much a buffer between us) or just decide not to care after all? (easier said than done).
I'm just worried about having a job to come back to - we were planning to move house on my return and I need a wage! I know they have to give me 'something' but can they try to make me move office? Is it sensible to try to talk to the MD before I go? He's quite new and as much as anything I'd like to tell him that I'm personally committed to the company and want to come back (I'm aware I can change my mind, as no doubt he will be too). I'm not sure I can trust my boss, now that he's resigned, to represent me properly.
I don't know what my question here is exactly - I suppose, that as returning to my job seems wobbly at best given that my whole department is leaving in one fell swoop, is there anything I can do now to try and secure my position, short of returning to work at six months?
