NHS Agenda for Change increments question, and would I be pushing my luck here?

Sorry if this is a daft question. I'm currently a band 5 with an increment due in September. I'm applying for a band 6 with an anticipated start date of June/July (if I'm successful, obviously). Will my future increments be paid in September or June?

Also, I'm currently at point 22, so would obviously anticipate going up to point 23 if I got the job. However, since I'll be going up to that anyway in September even if I don't get the job, would it be incredibly unreasonable to ask to start on point 24? Or is that just too cheeky? Grin Going up to a 24 would only actually give me an extra £8 a month anyway, as that seems to be the point where the pension contribution jumps up Confused

Not wanting to count my chickens, just want to be prepared...

June I reckon.

So yes I'd ask about starting on 24.

No it's not cheeky, I did this for exactly the same reason when it was still Whitley, and they honoured it I became "non Whitley"

The only thing which I had to watch in every subsequent promotion and job would be that HR would put me down an increment, I used to have to argue this, really annoying, but I remained non Whitley until I left the NHS.

Most people in the NHS are so locked into the increments it doesn't occur to them to ask.

I remember asking I thought I was going to be sick... The cheek of me!

Senior nurse just said "oh yes, I see what you mean, HR will have to sort it, they can be slow"

They where took 4 months of constant hassle but eventually sorted and back pay given

Good luck

Thanks missingmum...oh, Whitley, that takes me back! I started just after they got rid of it, but there were still a few people on it who didn't want to change over to the Trust t&c.

Anyway, sounds like it's worth a shot. Just have to get the bloody thing now...

In our trust, in your situation, we would automatically start you one point higher than you are, and reset your increment date to your start date. So in effect you would increment slightly early. The exception to this is when someone would increment inside a month anyway, then they start two points higher, and again we reset the date.

If you are offered the vacancy, I would ask the recruiting manager about it, then possibly discuss it with HR. They might allow you to start on point 24, but in our trust we would need authorisation (usually from the recruiting manager) to be able to do it.

Thanks MangoBiscuit, that's helpful. I'll ask before I accept anything.
