Hi peeps dunno if anyone can advise on this but here goes.
i currently work 3 hours a week as of next week i start a new job within the company 26 hours per week term time only my child care is 170 per week for 3 kids (one at full time school so its mostly for my little two).
i earn 193 per week
i dont work any school hols or get paid for them but my pay is adjusted so i get the same every month .my problem is that tax credit people wont recognize this and are going to pay me 197 per week in tax credits even when im not using childcare during the holidays. i dont need to pay my childminder a retainer so im gonna get money for childcare im not using during the school hols.im so stressed with this not only am i dreading leaving my kids nervous about my new job im also woirried about owing tax credits back next year.nobody is listtening when i explain my situation to the tax credit people and i dunno what to do!although the money will be sooooo useful i dont want to have anything im not entitled to!

Write a letter to tax credits clearly stating your siuation and asking for confirmation the award is correct; then if they change their mind at the end of the year you will have evidence.

Meanwhile calculate what you think is extra and put that in a savings account until you know it is yours.

tiredmumov3 · 31/08/2006 13:32

i recon im gonna stick the extra in a savings account and leave it there that way i wont spend it and if they come after it they can have it in a lump if they dont it can sit there as long term savings.it will only be six weeks worth as my contract is only until the end of the school year next july.the thing with writing to them is they could suspend payment whilst they asses it which i cant afford or i could get a complete div looking at the letter and still get the wrong info aaaaarrrrghhhhhh !!!

As long as you don't spend it you'll be okay - i was overpaid but instead of claiming it back straightaway they just stopped payments for a year!! Luckily i had saved the overpayment so was able to use it during that year of nothing.

ssd · 31/08/2006 14:17

whatever you do - GET IT ALL IN WRITING!!

they don't care if you call them to explain things, they "can't recall" the phone conversations.....

muma3 · 31/08/2006 14:18

ask them if it is correct over the phone . if they say yes , make sure you mention that the phone calls are recorded and that if it is wrong then you wont be owing any money. i did this and the calculations were wrong. i phoned them and told them to look throguh the ohone records and realise that they had stated that i didnt have to pay back and they told me it was right . they didnt have a leg to stand on and withdrawn over payment.

it was over £3000 btw !!!

ssd · 31/08/2006 14:22

I'm fighting them through CAB just now, we have asked them to look at the phone convo's since 3 yrs ago. Am waiting for their decision........

thanks everyone feel better for finding other people in similar situations.
i did say on the phone i dont want to be left owing tax credits back and she said dont worry you wont.will just sit on the money and see what happens.

If you are not using child care for more than 2? weeks then you have to notify them so only the summer hols would be affected and you just need to tell them then and they should stop paying you until you tell them (end of summer) to restart.
I use to pay for dd2s playschool and claim it back as child care costs and this is what I had to do.

tiredmumov3 · 31/08/2006 19:34

wow thats great as my contract is only until the end of school yr so if thats right im in the clear!thanks for that

i have had about8 different estimations of how much i will recieve it all depends on who you speak to its crazy

when i only had to pay childcare for the holidays, i was told to average it out over 52 weeks. so for 13 weeks my costs were £100 per week. £1300 divided by 52 = £25 weekly childcare cost. it used to explain it in the form, but as i don't have childcare at moment i am not up to date. whatever you do don't spend any overpayment (it takes them a couple of years usually to realise they have overpayed).
