I am a teacher on a fixed term contract of one year. The school is expanding and now they want more teachers. My head teacher did not tell me of the vacancies, but I applied anyway. I have been told I have not even been shortlisted for interview. I am shocked. I have worked so hard and there's been a lot of positivity towards me about the job I've done. The boss has not spoken to me about this at all and I feel I have no rights and nowhere to turn. I now have to stay there until the summer knowing they don't think I'm worthy of my own job!!

Have you asked them why not?

Aberdeen3 · 29/04/2014 22:20

"There is such a wide range of other candidates" was the reason I got!

Sure they just didn't want someone cheaper...

Hmmm, you're not the first to mention the money, I am at the expensive side of things now. How disheartening is this situation!

Well that kind of confirms my suspicions, it would be no surprise if they end up with NQTs!

This won't help how disappointed you feel, but practically... If your fixed term contract is coming to an end, I would've thought you'd be covered by redundancy/redeployment procedures of the school/LA. I'd suggest a call to your union to clarify your position.

They have to give you notice etc before the end of the fixed term contract. Call the union, as it's not just a case of you not showing up the day after the contract ends.
