Flat rate VAT submissions - help!!!

Hello Mumsnetters

Hoping you can help as we are going around in circles and the HMRC are not much use when we call them!

Dh has registered for the flat rate VAT scheme and is registered so he has a HMRC log in. However, how do we know when he needs to submit the actual return? Is it monthly? quarterly? yearly?

Also, do we need to register again to use the online service, even though we are registered with a VAT registration number?

How many times can I say registered?

TIA

IIRC you have to register to use the on-line service and this gets added to your list of services on the HMRC log in page. My VAT submissions are quarterly and I receive an email reminder.

Thanks so much for your response. We have now tried to register for online services and it is not allowing us to enrol and directing us to the service help desk. Grr!!!!
Good to know it works for some.

Have a good evening Smile

Yes there is a separate online registration system....if I recall correctly you apply and they post you log in details.

Quarterly and I also get an email reminder. You do get some leeway, eg My quarterly return for Jan to March only needs submitting online by end Apr and you have until 7th may to pay.

Also read the specific flat rate guidance...I only fill in two boxes. Total Vat payable is the amount of vat you have calculated based on your flat rate %. Total sales box is total sales plus the vat you have charged so basically sum of your total invoice value.

It's a great scheme, v straightforward and we make aprox £1200 pa profit....legitimately from the taxman!!Shock

quarterly VAT reurns
and your government gateway registration to file stuff online is quite separate from the actual VAT registration
