HR people or anyone who knows about interview etiquette - OK to email for news 2 weeks after interview?

I can't tell how the interview went.

The vibes were positive, the job is interesting, better paid and certainly a role I am capable of - this was acknowledged and they seemed very keen given my skills and experience. But it'd be a big change for me (move to new area, so new schools for DC etc) so there were certain reservations on both sides.

They said I'd hear 'next week', but that was last week. Still nothing.

Should I assume it's a no? Would it be rude/good/bad to email for some feedback?

Did they have a break for the Easter holidays? If I were you I would contact them next Monday if I dont hear from them by Friday, since you have bug decisions to make and think about. Good Luck.

I am also waiting to hear from a employer. Apllication and pre-interview done just before the Easter break. However they closed for 2 weeks and the role is DBS dependent. I know my records are clear but I suspect they need to have the results first before contacting me for other interview. I need to make decisions too.....
The waiting sucks.

Oh sorry. I am not a HR person and I don't know about interview etiquette. Blush

Polkadotpatty · 23/04/2014 12:26

I would always contact people who had been interviewed, to let them know the outcome (positive or negative). No answer yet probably means a delay in making the decision, perhaps due to the holidays, but I certainly wouldn't count it against any candidate if they followed up in a friendly way, asking if there was any news.

CMOTDibbler · 23/04/2014 12:37

I'd email - for the job I have now, it took six weeks for them to let me know, and there weren't even any other candidates.

PunchHouse · 23/04/2014 12:47

Falconi, don't be silly! All thoughts welcome! Fingers crossed for you. And yes the waiting does suck, big time.

They will only have had Easter weekend off so still plenty of working days since we met.

Polka, thank you. Maybe I'll wait til Friday. I'm assuming they have other candidates. I'm not particularly optimistic now Sad

CMOT, gasp!

Did you contact them during the long wait?

A polite email saying how much you enjoyed meeting them and having the opportunity to interview, etc, is perfectly fine, and go ahead and ask when a decision might be expected. It's not rude and it won't count against you.

CMOTDibbler · 23/04/2014 13:06

Yes, but I can't remember the excuses now!

Things do seem to be getting worse though - dh was approached to apply for a job in Feb, told straightaway they really liked him, was shortlisted. Still no interview, and the recruiter is fed up too

PunchHouse · 23/04/2014 13:45

eight, I sent them a note to that effect a couple of days after the interview and enclosing my travel expenses receipts for refund, as arranged. Actually I still haven't had the refund yet either!

CMOT, that's awful, what a waste of time and energy.
